Another weekend in lovely Pasadena

In this episode, the protaganist finds yet another way to spend a California weekend void of studying...her main purpose in moving to the West Coast, you may remember.   A full load of courses to be completed - ones she is very excited about, in fact - and yet other events same to take over.

This weekend included a friend's wedding in San Diego, black martinis, an evening with surfers at the Patagonia in Cardiff, funk music in the park, Gordon Biersch, hiking, cousins, a Thai temple, a visit from Katy, Arabic jazz, and a fun evening of Thai food and photos with friends from work.

I think maybe tomorrow I'll study.

Single

I am glad to know we live in an age of such easy communication.  Leave it to Facebook to communicate the most intimate details of our life.

On Monday at 9:00am I decided it futile that Facebook announce to the world that I am SINGLE as part of my profile.  I didn't join Facebook to find a husband.  So I decided to remove "single" from my relationship status, leaving it ambiguous.  I even hid the "feed" so that other people would not take notice and begin asking me questions.

On Monday at 9:30am I received a call from a friend in Texas.  We chatted a bit and then she asked if there was anything I should tell her...any new news.  Nope, I had nothing.  Extracting not a single juicy detail, she then proceeded by saying Facebook had informed her I was no longer single.

By 9:45am on Monday morning I had receieved 2 additional messages demanding that I "explain all."

My friends were left with nothing...and also reassured them that if my relationship status did indeed change from single, I would let them know.  Personally.  For now, I can only hope that Facebook stays out of my love life (...or lack thereof)

Tagged

Having recently discussed with my lovely friend Kristin about how I don't like to write much on my blog because I'm a people-pleaser who is scared of offending (there, I said it), she decisively "tagged" me to write about any weird habits or personal facts I might have.  For one, I didn't know you could tag people on blogs.  And I suppose I could still paint you a picture of someone entirely different than I am by merely enumerating some eccentric soundbites...but hey, it's past my bedtime and sounds like fun.  Plus Kristin just gave me a cool plant and even took care of my beloved papyrus, so this is the least I can do to return the favor.

Here goes...

1. I clench my teeth [repeatedly...though certainly not obsessively] while driving over the painted lines on a highway.

2. I don't look people in the eye when I'm telling them something personal.

3. I really don't like hairs on things (i.e. stuck to black fleece, or in a plate of food).  Or feet.

4. Whenever I see old people eating by themselves in restraunts I want to cry.

5. I still can never remember how to spell restraunts.  restaraunts?  wait...restaurunts?  it's time for bed...

And now comes the part, I think, where I'm supposed to tag some other people:

Andrea, Lindsey, Raf & Elisabeth, Rachel, Melanie

[thanks kristin]

A Beautiful Day

A beautiful day with two beautiful friends.  Miriam, Praise & I explored the Getty Villa - an art gallery and reproduction of an ancient Roman house atop a cliff in Malibu.  Topped with drinks at Duke's, dolphins and jumping on the beach, few things could be better : )
